The 9rules hypothetical quotations

9 rulesIf you follow web world with a certain regularity you surely know the operations that carried two “small” services linked to the blogosphere to be acquired – for high numbers – by two colossuses of informatics.

First is Weblogs.com, a ping service created by Dave Winer and buyed for 2.3 milions of dollars.
Second is Weblogs, Inc., a high traffic blog’s network (you know Engadget o Cinematical?) conquered by AOLand now, enter the rumors! – for digits swinging from $25 and $40 milions.
Playing with this numbers, after some steps, french-american Tristan Louis deduced an hypothetical approach for the calculation of whichever blog’s monetary value.
How? Starting by rumor’s AOL offer – 25, 30, or 45 milions of $ – Louis first assign to the several network’s blog a distinctly “weight” do not by visits, but from incoming links in Technorati (“# sites link to:”); then, from link’s number, he calculate the percentage correspondent for a blog and therefore his hypothetical cost.
For example, Autoblog has Technorati‘s 1,573 incoming links so the 3,55% of sum of all incoming links of network’s blog and he should have 888,178.70 dollars if offer price was 25 milions, 1,065,814.44 if 30 milions or 1.421.085,92 if 40.
Therewith if money is proportional to the link’s number, every link corresponds to a certain quantitive of money.
To obtain it, you can divide the example digits – 888.178$ – for 1,573 links and obtain that every link has a value of (for the offer prize equal at 25 milions) 564,63 $.
So in Louis table:

Link $25 million value 30 million value 40 million value
1 $564.64 $677.57 $903.42

Then [hypothesis list] if your blog would belong to a big network going to be acquired and this network has a quotation from 25 to 40 milions of dollars and the value of every blog could be quantified through the incoming links in Technorati [/hypothesis list]
you could obtain the monetary value of your blog multiplying the Technorati’s incoming links with one of the three value in the table above.

Well.
I know this is a reasoning at the limit of absurde because Technorati (how many times I cite it today?:) ) maybe it’s not the King Solomon of 2005, but because sometimes I read web news saying “But…this is completely absurde!”, I like it.
After this pharagraphs, in the same post in my italian blog – written better than these lines (update: a reader says: “I will not be so sure of this.”) – I calculate the hypothetical quotations of the most read italian blogs, and the comments I received, in mine and other blogs, were sometimes smile, sometimes scepticisms, sometimes critics about low prices, sometimes the question “Term ‘blog’ is really equal to term ‘money’?”.
Today I repeat the same experiment with a famous network called 9rules, where there are some interesting blogs I read often and that sometimes save my work.

I repeat: it’s only a game.
I know, as blogger, that behind a blog there’s the passion first, and the intent to share it with the readers.
But in front of an offer of this type, what will change?
